Feed A Rhino For A Week
To safeguard a healthy rhino habitat, Rockwood does whatever it takes in a harsh environment
Rockwood’s ultimate goal is not to have to save the rhino at all. But until then, we’re dedicated to doing whatever it takes to ensure the continued survival of the species and safeguarding rhino habitat. That means using aggressive conservation to protect the rhinos under our care. While it’s a far cry from how they would live in the wild, free from human interference, it is their best chance in our current climate.
Rockwood is in the Northern Cape of South Africa which is ideal rhino habitat. The remoteness works in favour in terms of safety and security. But the terrain is arid with an annual rainfall of between just 50 and 400mm. As a result, there is often a lack of abundant grazing. So, keeping a herd of over 300 Southern white rhinos fed is no easy task.
