Keep a ranger on his horse for a month
Rockwood’s wildlife rangers rely on their horses to get the job done
Protecting the rhino species from becoming extinct is not just the job of humans. While our wildlife rangers forego their safety to go out each day and guard over 300 rhinos, so do their trusty steeds. With rough terrain and vast distances, the best way for our rangers to keep a close eye on Rockwood’s rhinos is on horseback. And just like we need to take care of our wildlife rangers, so do their horses need care and upkeep. Each ranger is allocated two horses, which he rides in rotation to prevent overworking them. In total Rockwood has over 50 horses for 24 rangers. That’s a lot of horses to feed!
